Connecticut's last living Medal of Honor recipient received a hero's farewell Monday during his funeral.
Michael Daly, of Fairfield, died Friday at the age of 83. President Harry Truman awarded the Medal of Honor to Daly in 1945 at the age of 20 for valor in combat at Nuremberg, Germany.
Soldiers carried Daly's flag-draped coffin out of Saint Pius Church in Fairfield as mourners looked on. Rep. Chris Shays and state Sen. John McKinney also attended.
The World War II veteran is described as a humble man who avoided the spotlight but led his life in a way that beckoned it.
"He was courageous and committed to helping people," said mourner Ron Bianchi, of Saint Vincent's Medical Center. "He was the same way in his private life."
Daly was buried with full military honors.
