A Newtown horse barn was destroyed Thursday after a large fire ripped through the structure on a farm, officials say.
The fire broke out at Long Meadow Horse Farm on Meadow Brook Road around 5:00 a.m.
Neighbors who live across the street tell News 12 they woke up to flames that were 100 feet in the air and called 911.
The barn manager who lives in an apartment that's attached to the horse barn made it out safely as well as all 11 horses that are kept inside. Neighbors say the barn has been on the property since before the 1960s.
They say it’s devastating to see it this way and hope it will be rebuilt.
Several departments worked to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews used an excavator to knock down the walls of the barn which was completely destroyed.
