Firefighters say a 25-year-old brother saved his 3-year-old sister's life after a fire broke out at a house in Bridgeport.
Authorities say the fire started at around 5 a.m. Saturday morning on Olive Street.
They also say a family of 10 was trapped inside the home.
Officials say the brother, Chanvareik Sam, caught his sister after their mother threw her from an upper-floor window.
Sam says his mother suffered broken ribs and a collapsed lung when she also jumped out the window. She is currently hospitalized in serious condition.
He says if himself and a relative had not pulled his mom to safety following the leap, she would have been struck by a falling air conditioner.
Sam says everyone else got out safely.
He says he may have caught his sister midair, but there was no heroism involved.
The family says they lost everything but the clothes they were wearing.
The Red Cross put them up in a hotel Saturday night.
