Some formerly homeless Bronx residents are finding themselves caught in the city's "revolving door" of services, according to a community group.
The Coalition for the Homeless says decreases in rent supplements as part of the city's Housing Stability Plus program, increased housing costs and stagnant incomes are contributing to a growing number of homeless New Yorkers in shelters.
The coalition is calling for an immediate suspension of the 20 percent annual reduction in the city?s rent supplement.
John Chapman, of Castle Hill, says he's having an increasingly tough time paying the bills because of decreases in the rent supplement. Chapman was a member of the city's Housing Stability Plus program, which seeks to get homeless New Yorkers off the streets and into their own homes.
"My goal was to pursue an education and once I obtained my GED, I would get a job. So that's what I did," Chapman says.
Chapman now fears he will end up back in city shelters.
