Forget tax holidays and suing OPEC to reduce gas prices, Connecticut lawmakers are expected Wednesday to pass a bill allowing gas stations to offer discounts on cash transactions.
Only a handful of some Hess gas stations and some independent dealers statewide currently offer discounts, but the law would allow more stations to offer the deal.
Two local stations, a BP in Norwalk and an independent station in Fairfield, are offering 14 and 20 cent discounts, respectively.
Shell Oil Company agreed to offer discounts in Connecticut last week, but other companies, including Gulf, Exxon-Mobil and Sunoco will not allow their dealers to do the same.
The discount would apply to cash transactions only. The deal is expected to involve 80 percent of Connecticut stations beginning as early as July. It could ultimately save consumers 20 cents per gallon, according to Fox.
