The Town of Stratford marked the 69th anniversary of Ghana’s independence Saturday.
Mayor David Chess joined the Ghana Association of Stratford at the Ruby & Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum for the celebration, which the association organized. Chess said he was “thrilled to observe the historic observance.”
“The Ghanaian people are a very proud people, and they are one of the most stable democracies in Africa,” he said.
Nana Kyerewaa of the Ghana Association of Stratford said she was proud to partner with the museum.
“We, the people of Ghana, have been through a lot, but now our country has settled. We are doing very well in the world, and our currency has risen,” she said.
Kyerewaa said she plans to travel to Ghana next year for the 70th anniversary celebrations, and hopes to hold a much larger observance in Stratford.
