Fairfield University hosted the annual Capital Breakfast this morning with Gov. Ned Lamont.
He outlined his key priorities and economic strategies for Connecticut's future. Among the biggest challenges the governor said the state faces are lack of housing and high energy costs.
Local officials voiced concerns over losing funding due to cuts in federal dollars.
"We have a wide range of different incomes, and we can't really afford to keep our services at the level that they are," said Fairfield First Selectman Bill Gerber. "Especially board of education and public school services, without the money that we get from the state and federal government."
Lamont said the state has a $1 billion budget surplus to help manage some of the unpredictability in funding.
The breakfast was sponsored by the Bridgeport Regional Business Council (BRBC), in collaboration with the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.
