Greenwich Hospital's milestones are usually on the medical side, but a $14 million donation recently became the biggest in the facility’s history.
Longtime Greenwich residents Lynne and Richard Pasculano gave the generous gift, which will help build the future Smilow Cancer Center at the hospital. Specifically, the money is going toward establishing the Pasculano Radiation Oncology Center there.
Hospital President Diane Kelly’s reaction to the donation was “overwhelming gratitude.”
“When somebody shares their resources of this magnitude, it speaks volumes to how important and how much they believe in the work that we’re doing,” she told News 12.
Kelly believes the donation will help transform Greenwich Hospital into a premiere facility for cancer care where medical treatments, social services and clinical trials will be available in one place.
The Smilow Cancer Center is expected to break ground in 2022 and take up to two years to build.
In a written statement, the Pasculanos said in part, "We felt this was a wonderful opportunity to make a major commitment to our community...This really was a no-brainer for us."
The couple also made a significant donation to the hospital in the past that opened options for new care for stroke patients.
