The Greenwich Fire Department is investigating an early morning fire that appears to have destroyed a new home on Ridge Street.
Fire officials say they are hearing a jogger running by Bruce Park at about 4 a.m. Thursday saw the fire and called it in. They say there were giant flames going high in the air when they arrived.
One person was treated by EMS.
Fire officials say they are still trying to determine what caused the fire at the home that was under construction and being built. They say they expect to be on the scene for hours. None of the nearby homes were damaged. Stamford fire also responded. Utility crews were also on the scene. Fire crews say this was a very tough fire to fight.
"When the crews got on scene they were able to go interior and try to make an attack on all three floors however they weren’t able to make much headway and they had to back out and I think they really put up a valiant effort for about 15 or 20 minutes and decided that they weren't going to be able to overcome it from there," said Greenwich Assistant Fire Chief Charles Lubowicki.
Fire officials believe the home could be a total loss because of fire and water damage. There is a good possibility the home will need to be knocked down.
