Communities across western Connecticut are coming together to celebrate Columbus Day, including Greenwich.
An Italian flag was raised this morning to honor the group's Italian ancestors. The flag is at half-staff to remember the victims of the Las Vegas shooting.
A couple dozen people came out, and both the Italian and American national anthems were sung.
Each year, an Italian-American from town is recognized and this year, it was Renato Berzolla, a deacon at St. Catherine's.
"He's a selfless guy,” says Tod Laudonia with the St. Lawrence Society. “He administers to people who need his help whenever you need it. We would like to show we appreciate that."
The flag raising is part of the town's 30th annual Columbus Day celebration.
