Police in Greenwich have arrested two teens and charged them with drug possession in connection with the 2004 overdose of a 19-year-old.
Police say John Bria was found dead after a party at his parent's home on Hallow Wood Lane in Greenwich four years ago. Authorities did not charge anyone in connection with the death until Tuesday, when Jason Cunningham, 24, of Greenwich and Savanna Lamotte, 23, of New Haven, were charged with drug possession.
"I'm thrilled to see that some justice is finally coming to him," says Peg Bria, John's mother. The Brias have filed a wrongful death suit against Cunningham, Lamotte and two other teens who attended the party.
Vito Colucci, a private investigator hired by the Bria family to further investigate their son's death, says he doesn't understand why the charges didn't surface earlier.
"They all admitted ? what they brought that night - who brought the heroin, who brought the cocaine and other items," he says. "And why anything wasn't done at that time, I can't answer that."
Cunningham's lawyer, however, says he finds it odd that police have charged his client four years after the incident. He also notes the absence of any physical evidence.
Cunningham and Lamotte are due in court Sept. 17.
