The Hammerheads thought they would be chomping up the field by this time and never thought their first competition would be a waiting game.
The Major League Lacrosse season has been put on hold indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic. The team says after President Donald Trump recanted his Easter deadline for when the U.S. should be back in business, they knew there was no chance of starting the season on time.
Originally, their first game was scheduled for May 30 at Fairfield's Rafferty Stadium. Many leagues have tossed around the idea of playing in empty stadiums once sports can resume, but the Hammerheads say they'll make that decision if and when the time comes.
Ian Frenette, the Hammerheads' president, says the team is hoping everyone and their families are staying safe and can't wait to get more information on when the season can start.
The team says dealing with adversity is beneficial for a young franchise.
