A Bridgeport food pantry offered COVID-19 vaccinations along with fresh produce and canned goods Wednesday.
Hartford Healthcare and the Bishop Jean Williams Food Pantry brought COVID-19 vaccines to Bridgeport as the city lags behind the state average for vaccinations.
The state Department of Public Health says nearly 53% of Connecticut is fully vaccinated. In Bridgeport, that number drops to 36%.
Officials with Hartford Healthcare say the first step of public health outreach is education.
Pastor Mary Green says the pantry feeds 650 families a week.
Officials report 44% of Bridgeport residents have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine.
