Parents who are planning for their children's education will see after colleges state-wide announce an increase in tuition costs for upcoming years.The Connecticut State University system says they are raising tuition by 6 percent for each of the next two years. Last month the University of Connecticut, which is not within the state system because it is a private university, made the same announcement. University officials say rising energy costs is one of the factors forcing them to increase tuition. They say they rely heavily on tuition money to support their overall operating costs.College Placement Consultant, Carolyn Baker, spoke to high school students and their parents about paying for college during an information session Saturday at the Urban League of Southwestern Connecticut in Stamford. She says one way to save money later on is to have children enroll in challenging courses in high school. Baker says by the time a student reaches junior or senior year many of the local colleges and community colleges will allow them to take courses there free of charge.
