Hundreds attend funeral for Stratford shooting victim Andre Pettway
Hundreds gathered at Mt. Avery Baptist Church in Bridgeport to remember 27-year-old Andre Pettway, who was fatally shot last week.
Police say Pettway was fatally shot on Garibaldi Avenue in Stratford. He was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police arrested 24-year-old Brandyn Ford of Stratford in connection with the murder. He is being held on $1.5 million bond.
The Pettways are one of the biggest families in the greater Bridgeport area and over the years have endured many tragic losses as a result of deadly shootings. Rev. Glenn Pettway and Suzette Pettway say Andre had a caring heart that touched every person he met.
Wayne Winston, a friend of Andrew, says the neighborhood needs to rally around the Pettway family for the good of the community.
"As a black man in the community, there's so much of this predatory behavior that's happening to innocent people…usually violence, mindless, senseless things that shouldn't be," says Winston.
