The PEHT Shop on Post Road in Fairfield may look like an ordinary boutique, selling clothing and accessories, but it's much more impactful than that.

The shop is run by the Partnership to End Human Trafficking, a nonprofit organization that provides survivors of human trafficking a safe haven and offers the support and resources they need to heal.

"I'm now able to use my recovery coach with other women who are still out there struggling and see me as an inspiration, to want to learn how to get help," said Monica Allen, a PEHT Shop employee.

The organization believes that human trafficking occurs locally, not just distantly. With large events happening in the tri-state area like the World Cup, PEHT CEO Jamie Manirakiza said there are signs everyone should be aware of.

"If you see somebody who looks like they are visibly scared or fearful, say something or ask if somebody needs help. If you hear people talking about the commercial sex trade or participating in it, report it," Manirakiza said.
