The Office of the Inspector General released its final report Wednesday on a shooting that left two Bristol police officers dead and another injured in October 2022.
The report details the timeline of events before Lt. Dustin DeMonte, Sgt. Alex Hamzy, and Officer Alec Iurato were ambushed while responding to a call at a home on Redstone Hill Road in Bristol.
During the incident, the suspect, Nicholas Brutcher, shot and killed DeMonte and Hamzy.
Iurato was injured and fired the single shot that killed Brutcher.
In his report, Inspector General Robert Devlin determined Lurato's use of deadly force was justified to defend himself, others on the scene and his fellow officers from serious injury or death from Brutcher.
