Islanders win Game 7 over Flyers, head to 1st conference finals since 1993

The Isles soundly shut down the Flyers in a 4-0 win.

The Islanders finished off the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 7 Saturday to advance to their first conference finals appearance since 1993.
The Isles soundly shut down the Flyers in a 4-0 win.

Islanders defensemen Scott Mayfield and Andy Greene both scored in the first period to give the Isles a 2-0 lead.
Brock Nelson built up the lead with a third goal in the second period. Anthony Beauvillier added an empty net goal with 6:18 left in the game.
Thomas Greiss replaced Semyon Varlamov as starter and recorded the shutout.

It took the Islanders three tries to eliminate the Flyers. The Isles had gone up 3-1 in the series but Philadelphia managed two overtime wins to force a Game 7.

The Islanders will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern conference finals. Game 1 is Monday at 8 p.m.
