The Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven is bouncing back one year after a fire severely damaged the building.
The flames broke out Dec. 5, 2016 in the center’s sauna.
The JCC’s early learning facility reopened for the start of the 2017 school year. Still in the works is a massive redesign of the entrance, reception area and cafe. Insurance paid for cleanup and some repairs, and funding for the redesign is coming from donations.
While about one-third of the JCC’s members left after the fire, officials say they hope the improvements will attract old friends and newcomers.
Officials plan to have everything ready and restored by the new year. They say they’re organizing a large celebration for March.
