Police officials are hoping a new law requiring drivers to slow down or move over when they see flashing lights will reduce accidents.
The law applies to roads that have at least three lanes in one direction, says Lt. Sean Cooney, of the Stamford Police Department.
"As you see that you're approaching flashing lights, you should immediately begin to say, 'I should slow down and if it's clear, if it's safe, I should move over,' " he says.
The law goes into effect Oct. 1.
