State and local leaders met with residents of a Bridgeport apartment complex Saturday morning where police say a man was shot Friday.

The residents say their community has an electric gate, but it's been broken for a while and they want it fixed so they will be safer.

They say a man was shot outside the building by somebody in a car who couldn't have gained access to the property as easily if the gate had been working.

Police say the shooting victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

The property manager saying he takes the security of his residents very seriously and has spent tens of thousands of dollars making improvements since coming onboard recently. He says there's still a lot of work to do, but he's committed to getting the job done as quickly as possible.
