The entertainment company Live Nation and Bridgeport city officials unveiled plans for the Harbor Yard Amphitheater Wednesday.
It is the venue that will replace the ballpark that once housed the
Bridgeport Bluefish baseball team.
It will seat about 5,500 people at full capacity and serve an estimated 250,000 guests a year at 50 to 75 events from spring to fall.
"I think it shows one more really exciting thing happening in Bridgeport, right next to the arena," says Mayor Joe Ganim. "People are talking about this all over the state."
Construction is expected to begin within the next two months.
The amphitheater's projected opening date is in June 2019.
Live Nation's Jim Koplich compared the new "boutique" amphitheater to venues in Coney Island and Boston.
