Long Island braces for weekend nor'easter with sand walls and storm preps

Coastal crews and local residents across Long Island are racing against the clock to reinforce shorelines and secure property ahead of an approaching weekend nor'easter.
A large wall of sand stretches from the East Bathhouse to the West Bathhouse at Jones Beach.
Employees worked Wednesday to add height to it.
"The wall of sand is great. It has prevented flooding. It has prevented damages," said New York State Parks Regional Director George Gorman.
Gorman said that erosion is a big concern, especially on Long Island's East End, where he said there was erosion last winter.
Lindenhurst residents on the waterfront told News 12 they have a routine when dicey weather rolls around.
They keep an eye on the forecast, and when necessary, they move their cars to higher ground.
Matthew Cullen said that they elevate everything in the garage, too.
In the Town of East Hampton, officials said they've already begun meeting about the storm.
Deputy Supervisor David Lys said residents should stay away from the water lines and advised boaters to double tie their lines.
