A California man accused of making threats against Jewish people went before a judge Friday.
Investigators say YoonChul Shin, 52, had been on their radar for about month and has been spotted at several Jewish centers across the country. They say they received a tip Wednesday night that he might head into the area.
Police say Shin showed up near West Hill High School on Roxbury Road Thursday where hundreds of people were gathered for an athletic event. They say a bomb squad was called to the site to search his car for any explosive devices, but nothing was found.
Shin's attorney says he told him he had visited some Jewish centers and synagogues around the country because he was doing a spiritual cleanse.
The judge placed Shin under a $15,000 bond to be posted only in cash and ordered that he undergo a competency evaluation.
