A man wanted in connection with an attempted robbery in October was arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase last week.

Police say an off-duty officer spotted Christopher Smith driving in Stamford on Friday. They say he took off after the officer attempted to pull over his vehicle.

Stamford Police Capt. Rich Conklin says Smith jumped from his large truck and fled on foot after being boxed in by pursuing officers. He says the suspect was eventually tackled and apprehended by a number of officers. 

In October, police say Smith held a gun to a 4-year-old boy's head and demanded money from his mother. It happened at the corner of Woodland Place and Pacific Street. The victim was able to knock the weapon from his hand.

News 12 is told Smith faces charges that include attempted robbery and engaging police in pursuit.
