? A jury found a 20-year-old man guilty of second-degree manslaughter Wednesday in the beating death of a 4-year-old boy.
According to court papers, Jose Calderon beat Quachaun Brown ?by using his fists, a belt, a plastic bat and by striking his head against a wall? between Jan. 27, 2006 and Jan. 30, 2006. The death occurred in the Kossuth Avenue apartment Calderon shared with the boy?s mother, Aleisha Smith. Brown died one day shy of his 5th birthday.
Smith has already pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree manslaughter and is currently serving a 2 ½- to 7 ½-year prison sentence.
The jury acquitted Calderon of murder. He faces up to 15 years in prison when he?s sentenced Nov. 1.
