A Weston man was sentenced to 6 1/2 years for the September 2013 crash that killed his friend.
Matthew Faillace, 33, pleaded guilty earlier this year to DUI and vehicular manslaughter in the crash that killed 25-year-old Maikol Chumasero. The victim's family asked the judge to consider their loss when handing out the sentence, saying they wanted justice for Chumasero.
Police say Faillace was drunk and speeding when he crashed on West Rocks Road in Norwalk.
Faillace apologized to Chumasero's family in court. His father also spoke and said his son is not a bad person, he just made bad decisions.
The Chumasero family has filed a lawsuit against the Faillace family and several bars that served the two men the night of the accident.
