Mayor Joe Ganim releases statement on death of Bridgeport woman

Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim has released a statement following an autopsy report detailing the cause of death of a Bridgeport woman.
The medical examiner says Lauren Smith-Fields died from a deadly combination of fentanyl and alcohol.
Police found Smith-Fields in her apartment Dec. 12 after a date with a man she met on a dating app.
The family says police were disrespectful and insensitive following the woman's death.
Police have maintained throughout they could not comment until the autopsy was concluded.
Ganim says he will work with the chief of police to make appropriate changes in Bridgeport for policies and practices regarding notifying family members of a death.
"I have contacted the State Medical Examiner to request assistance in expediting this matter so that the investigation can proceed, and detectives may provide a comprehensive report to the family and parents of Lauren Smith-Field," Ganim says.
The family's attorney Darnell Crosland says now that police have the cause of death, it's time to launch a full and complete investigation.
