Residents across the city continued to visit a makeshift memorial on Tuesday for two the NYPD officers who were slain in Brooklyn.
Many laid flowers at Myrtle and Tompkins avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where officers Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32, were fatally shot on Saturday.
They were shot execution-style, according to NYPD Commissioner William Bratton, as they ate lunch inside their patrol car.
Gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley then fatally shot himself, the final act in a rampage that began when he shot and wounded his ex-girlfriend at her home outside Baltimore, according to authorities.
Many gathered at the spot where the officers paid the ultimate sacrifice, to pray, light candles or lay flowers and wreaths. They say they hope their presence can give hope to the mourning families who lost their loved ones.
A stream of police officers also came to pay tribute to their fallen comrades.
News 12 spoke with many who said they are still in shock and disbelief that someone would kill these men only for wearing a badge and uniform.
