A new year brought another fare increase for Metro-North commuters on the New Haven Line.
Rail officials said all fare types have increased by 1 percent.
"People are actually going to start taking buses way more because the buses are not going up," said commuter Courtney Bennett, of Norwalk. "The buses went up three years ago; they're still $1.50, and people are going to stop taking the train."
Rail officials say the increase is the first of four planned hikes to help Connecticut pay for the new M-8 rail cars.
A new train schedule has also taken effect.
