A newborn child in Milford was killed in an accident involving the family's dog.

The family is choosing not to release details of what happened, but they said it was not "an attack" by the dog but rather "a tragic accident."

The parents say the 2-week-old Brayden Burwell died despite efforts by first responders and health care workers at Bridgeport and Yale New Haven hospitals.

The family says it happened at their home last Friday.

Kevin Morse, the infant’s uncle, told News 12 his family is suffering but is grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.

"I've tried to go out a couple of times, it's just really pretty difficult, so I just wanted to thank everybody that's been so supportive. It's really been helpful,” said Morse.

Family members said the dog has since been put down.

A funeral for the newborn will take place at Cody White Funeral Home in Milford on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family.
