Stamford officials confirmed Tuesday that they have added Cove Island and Leone parks to the list of public places where surveillance cameras will be installed.
The move comes after a deadly shooting in Leone Park last week and the sexual assault of a woman in Cove Island last month.
Officials say they hope the cameras will help prevent crimes.
Stamford Mayor David Martin says that surveillance cameras were originally set up to record illegal dumping. The new cameras will be set up on emergency poles.
The poles will also have phones, so people will be able to immediately contact police in the event of an emergency.
Martin says $150,000 had to be secured for the pilot program and that police needed to work through some municipal regulations.
He says he plans to install one surveillance camera in each park and will install more if necessary.
Officials are hoping to have the cameras set up in the spring.
