More schools have announced closures due to potential coronavirus exposures.
The Westport School District has been shut down until further notice after officials say students in schools throughout the district were in contact with an individual presumed to be positive with coronavirus.
In a letter to parents Wednesday, David Abbey, Interim Superintendent of Schools, wrote, "Based upon discussions with and at the direction of Mr. Mark Cooper, Director of Health for the Westport Weston Health District, the Westport School District will be closed until further notice following today's regularly scheduled dismissal."
Abbey says all after-school and evening activities, including athletics are canceled, and there will be immediately be a deep cleaning of schools.
Several other schools around the state continue to close due to growing concern over the coronavirus.
The New Canaan Public Schools will be closed March 12 until March 26.
CSCU President Mark Ojakian has directed the four Connecticut state universities and the 12 Connecticut community colleges to move classes online starting March 23 through at least April 5.
Weston Public Schools will also close until further notice due to potential exposure.
