A mother and her young daughter were critically injured in a fire at their Bridgeport apartment early Sunday morning.
The fire sparked at around 12:30 a.m. at an apartment building at 223 Washington Ave. The flames were contained to one apartment, trapping the woman and her 2-year-old daughter inside and forcing dozens of others to evacuate.
Firefighters managed to rescue them and they were taken to the hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Tenants say the two victims are the wife and daughter of the building's superintendent.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
