A mother and daughter escaped a fire that blew out the windows of their Bronx apartment.
The fire started while they were in the kitchen of their East 174th Street apartment Wednesday morning. The mother and her 19-year-old daughter told a 911 operator that they were trapped by the fire, but they were able to escape before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters, who said they got the fire under control in about 20 minutes, said while the flames were contained to the one apartment, there is now water damage throughout the building.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
Debris, bits of windows and charred appliances remain in the fourth-floor apartment. The mother and daughter are unsure when they will be able to return home, and they said they were too distraught to speak to News 12.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
