A mother of two from Fairfield was fatally struck by a car Tuesday morning while walking across a street in downtown Stamford.
The incident happened at the intersection of Elm and North State streets just after 7 a.m.
The identity of the 59-year-old victim has not been released. Police say the driver of the car that struck the victim is a 38-year-old man from Stamford.
They say he stayed at the scene after the incident and was cooperative, but they expect he will face charges after they finish with their investigation in a week or two.
Police say the victim was rushed to Stamford Hospital, where she died of her injuries.
News 12 reached out to the victim's employer, Germany-based consumer goods manufacturer Henkel, but was told managers there were too upset to speak about the situation.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the incident to call Stamford police.
