The state Department of Public Health has released a list of COVID-19 cases at nursing homes, and the numbers are staggering.
The largest outbreak is at Abbott Terrace Health Center in Waterbury, which has 69 cases and 15 deaths so far. The next is in Milford at Golden Hill. That facility has 67 positive cases and nine deaths – making up 56% of the residents.
Other hot spots include Grimes Center in New Haven, The Willows in Woodbridge, Gardner Heights Health Care and Apple Shelton Lakes – both in Shelton.
The data shows that nursing home residents make up a total of 1,713 COVID-19 in the state and 375 total deaths.
The state released the numbers Thursday after weeks of pressure by families and the media. Gov Ned Lamont’s Office said they faced obstacles compiling the data, which is sometimes written by hand and submitted on fax machines.
