A Bridgeport pastor says the Air Force and Army made him the man he is today.
The Rev. Carl McCluster spent a year at the Air Force Academy during college. But when he signed up later, it was for four years in the Army.
"To protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America," said McCluster. "I'll never forget that, that was the oath we took."
McCluster comes from a military family. His father, uncle, cousin and brother served.
McCluster has been a pastor for 24 years at Shiloh Baptist Church and a local organizer with Faith Acts for Education. McCluster says he has his military training to thank for his work ethic, as well as his talent for managing emergencies and people.
He says he still reflects on those who gave it all each Veterans Day and every time he hears the national anthem before a ballgame.
"People have sacrificed for that, and I would just like for people to appreciate it," McCluster said.
