? Some of Bridgeport?s 21,000 students will start classes Wednesday in one of three new school buildings.
One of the new schools is Geraldine W. Johnson School ? named for Dr. Geraldine Johnson, the first woman and African American superintendent of Bridgeport schools. The school?s Web site says it will accommodate about 750 students from pre-k to eighth grade.
Workers put final touches on the sleek, new building Tuesday in preparation for incoming students. The new Barnum and Waltersville schools will also accept students Wednesday, while Webster and Garfield will close permanently.
