The town of New Canaan honored a gas station owner with a proclamation on Monday to celebrate his 50 years of business.
Anyone in town who has ever visited the Mobil at 16 South Ave. in New Canaan has certainly met Art Kean at some point.
The Mobil owner has been a long-standing staple in town.
"Fifty years on this corner here, selling gas," said Kean.
Kean started selling gas at the New Canaan Mobil after he left the police force.
"I joined the Norwalk Police Department back in the 70's and was there a short time. I wanted to go on to do business," said Kean.
The gas station sits on a busy intersection of the quiet town, placing him in the perfect location to meet some very memorable people.
"I met a lot of movie stars. I remember talking to Cher one time, on the phone and she sent me a picture," said Kean.
The station's walls are filled with a vast collection of famous people he has met, but Kean takes pride in more than just that.
Most people who walk in the gas station, whether it be for their gas, a quick snack, or their lotto number, always know they'll have a warm greeting from Kean.
"I mean, if you know him you love him, if you don't, you're missing out," said Maria Faucher, Kean’s daughter.
