A parade of storms is headed to New Jersey bringing even more of a wintry mix to northern parts of the state.
Dominico Pisciotta, owner of Meadowlands Hardware in East Rutherfurd, shared some tips on how to best clear all the snow and ice.
He said the question he gets the most is, “Which salt brine is better?”
“Roads you use rock salt. And if you value your property and the concrete and the steps, you'll use calcium chloride or magnesium chloride. The best of the two is calcium chloride,” Pisciotta says.
He recommends 100% calcium chloride over a mix. He says it's good for temperatures below freezing and is easy to walk on.
"It doesn't damage your sidewalk, it doesn't track into the house, it doesn't leave the white powder on your carpet or your entranceway," said Pisciotta.
When it comes to shoveling, he says the most popular kind is the flat lightweight blue shovel, used by homeowners and landscapers.
Pisciotta encourages customers to shop locally.
