A report in the Hartford Courant has new information on the Christmas Day fire in Stamford that claimed the lives of three children and their grandparents in 2011.
The boyfriend of the mother of three children, who was also the contractor on the home, reportedly says he lied to police about who put fireplace ashes in the home's mudroom before the blaze started.
Michael Borcina said the children's mother, Madonna Badger, placed the bag of ashes in the mudroom and admitted he lied when he told investigators he had moved them from the kitchen counter to the room.
Investigators have said they believe the ashes caused the fire.
Borcina said he lied to protect Badger.
