A new pharmacy was unveiled in Stratford Saturday and is named after former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop.
Dr. Gary Blick, the founder of Healthcare Advocates International - a nonprofit that fights stigma and discrimination in the LBGTQ community, says Koop's son is a personal friend and his proud to name the pharmacy after him.
Sen Richard Blumental also joined Blick to commemorating the 40th anniversary of when the first cases of HIV and AIDS were reported in 1981.
Blick says revenue from the Koop Community Pharmacy will be used to help underserved and marginalized communities. He says his nonprofit is awarding a $50,000 check to a Texas-based organization supporting gender-affirming surgery for transgender people.
