A new, less invasive treatment for uterine fibroids is now available at the University of Connecticut, offering a quicker recovery time compared to traditional surgery.
Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths in the uterus that can cause pain, heavy bleeding, and difficulty getting pregnant. While surgery is often the go-to treatment, it can require a lengthy recovery period of over a month.
The new treatment, known as Sonata, utilizes focused ultrasound technology to target and destroy the fibroids. This minimally invasive procedure is the first of its kind in Connecticut. Doctors at UConn say the Sonata treatment boasts a faster recovery time, with most patients needing only one to two weeks to fully recover.
