A late-night bar fight in Norwalk ended with one man in serious condition and another man facing assault charges.
The incident occurred early Wednesday near the Fiesta Mexicano Bar on Fort Point Street. Police say Gilberto Alvarez and Felipe Munoz got into a fight that spilled out into the street. Authorities say that?s where Munoz stabbed Alvarez in the stomach.
Police say alcohol was most likely a factor in the fight between the two men, who knew each other. Detectives searched Munoz?s home as part of their investigation into the fight.
Alvarez is at Norwalk Hospital in serious condition with a stab wound to his abdomen.
The owner of Fiesta Mexicano says the stabbing incident took place outside of his restaurant. He says the bar closed at 1 a.m. like usual and that he's not sure whether the two men were customers. He also says it is not uncommon for people to loiter in the parking lot and drink after hours.
The cause of the altercation is under investigation.
