They say residents should create a disaster kit with any items that family members might need in case of an emergency. They also advise residents to make a disaster plan.
Firefighters also advise homeowners to use flashlights and glow sticks in case of a power outage instead of candles.
Lastly the Norwalk Fire Department says residents should make sure all of the smoke alarms are working in the house. They also tell homeowners to shovel out fire hydrants in front of your house.
