Norwalk police announced Friday that testing will begin on body cameras the department will soon deploy.
Officers will test the new equipment over the next few weeks, officials say. They will also train on how and when to use the cameras amid concerns of privacy, which weigh against the ideas of oversight and police transparency.
Private donations paid for the 35 new cameras, which cost about $50,000.
Other area police departments, including Fairfield, are also testing body cameras.
A new state law requires officers to train in body camera use, and the state will now reimburse local departments for the expense of buying cameras.
