New York state health officials say more than 900 patients will be given new blood tests after Bronx-Lebanon Hospital discovered some patients were given the wrong results last year.

State officials said the errors occurred because some blood samples from six patients treated by outpatient clinics at Bronx-Lebanon were mislabeled. Erroll Schneer, a hospital spokesman, says Bronx-Lebanon believes the errors were "isolated incidents," but has decided to retest at least 920 patients originally tested between April and December 2008.

The patients received letters about the blood tests. Free transportation will also be offered to those who need new tests.

The state health department says officials are investigating whether the errors caused any patients to receive the wrong diagnosis, wrong treatment or wrong medication.
