Officials in Rochester, New York say they have found the body of a missing college student and Fairfield native.
Max Maisel was a 21-year-old student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was last seen Feb. 22 near the Genesee River.
The student's father, Ivan Maisel, confirmed Monday that his son's body was found in Lake Ontario last week. Rochester police say that a fisherman found the body Friday morning, about a mile from where Maisel was seen last.
Ivan Maisel says that the town of Fairfield has been supportive of his family since the beginning of their search, and he thanked them along with officials for all their help. He says his family can begin to move on now that they have answers about what happened to his son.
Max Maisel was a student at Fairfield Warde High School.
A memorial service was held for Maisel in late March in Bridgeport after his family had presumed he drowned.
Ivan Maisel told News 12 that his wife is in currently in Rochester. Their son's remains will be brought back to Fairfield.
Maisel is survived by his parents and two sisters.
