Mayor David Chess says crews are responding to two major water main breaks and a sinkhole in Stratford.
Chess says the break involves a 30-inch water transmission main on Huntington Road north of the Merritt Parkway. Police say the road is closed to all traffic between 2810 Huntington Road and 3300 Huntington Road.
In a video posted to Facebook, Chess said the first break happened near Beaver Dam Road. The second break happened on Bear Dam Road, which caused a sinkhole to form.
Trumbull officials say the break is also impacting their town.
Emergency crews from Aquarion Water Department and Stratford Public Works are on scene along with police, fire and emergency management.
Residents might experience low water pressure and temporary water service interruptions.
As of 4:30 p.m., Aquarion said service should be restored in 16 to 18 hours.
Chess says there is currently no boil water advisory in effect. Bottled water is available at the fire department on Huntington Road and Boulevard
People are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes. They should also conserve water whenever possible while repairs are underway.
